Home for the Holidays

I won't be home for the holidays this year, but if you're having a stay-cation, I have some ideas for what you can do to still have an exciting and festive holiday season.

1. Make a gingerbread house
Even though it seems like it will take a long time and is tedious, it's really not. All you have to do is buy a gingerbread house kit and you can make one within half an hour to an hour. It's especially fun to do with friends. What would be really fun would be buying two gingerbread house kits and form teams and have a competition for the best gingerbread house. If you can't get a kit, use graham crackers instead of gingerbread.

2. Have a Christmas movie marathon
There are so many great Christmas movies out there to watch. Grab your friends and some hot chocolate and watch as many Christmas movies as you can.

3. Have a baking party
One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is bake. You can find lots of great recipes on pinterest or Some of my favorite cookies to bake during this season are nutella thumbprint cookies (substitute the jam for rich nutella and sprinkle some crushed candy canes on top for a festive treat), butter balls, and chocolate caramel cookies.

4. Make snowflakes
As elementary school as this may sound, making snowflakes it still fun and can be used to add decorative flair to your home. I like to make these 3D snowflakes, because they're delicate looking and look a lot more professional and classy than the simple snowflakes we learned how to create when we were younger. I hung my snowflakes in front of my window, so it looks like these beautiful snowflakes are always falling. You can make these snowflakes while watching TV or a movie, since they can be quite time consuming to make.

5. Go thrift shopping
You don't just have to buy gifts for your friends and family, you can buy quirky little gifts for yourself from the thrift store for great prices and not feel bad about spending on yourself. You'd be surprised about what you can find in thrift stores.

6. Go ice skating
Ice skating is lots of fun, even though I'm not the best at it and skate at the pace of a snail. Who cares if you fall? Just go out there and have fun on the ice.
