Self-Love Day

Valentine's Day is the epitome of love. It's the time of the year when couples celebrate their love for one another and get a little more PDA than usual. The issue with Valentine's Day is that it reminds a lot of singles that they are indeed single. Even though it's not a bad thing at all to be single, it can sometimes feel a little lonely to not have a significant other, especially with all the happy couples around during Valentine's Day. However, you don't have to make it a gloomy holiday, I propose that we turn Valentine's Day into a Self-Love Day.
Since Valentine's Day is all about love, why should loving yourself be any different?  This year, I'm planning on being my own Valentine. Take this day of love and devote it to loving yourself. We often push aside our own needs in order to keep up with our busy lives, but sometimes you just need to treat yourself, so I declare Valentine's Day to be Self-Love Day. So what can you do to pamper yourself and celebrate your undying love for yourself?

Take yourself on a date.

Whether it's a fancy dinner or a movie, dates are applicable to any relationship, from friends to more than just friends, so why should a relationship with yourself be any different? Make this day all about you and treat yourself to a date. The best thing is that you'll never be disappointed, because no one knows you better than yourself. You don't have to pick specific foods in fear of appearing like an over-eater or making sure that you don't pick anything messy, you can dig in with no hesitations! Not one for a date? Throw yourself a party for one for self-love day!

Write a love letter to yourself.

Roses are red, violets are blue, you would give a loved one a Valentine, so why not you too? Make a list of all the things you love about yourself and don't say that there's nothing, think of a few things that you love about yourself. For example, I love my hair, since it's naturally straight and easily tamable. Note your best qualities and remember that it's not being arrogant, it's self-appreciation.

Buy yourself chocolates.

Valentine's Day is the time to indulge, take advantage of the pretty heart shaped boxes filled with decadent truffles and buy one for yourself. Be absolutely shameless about buying sweets for yourself, because let's be real, you deserve them! Plus, it's a total bonus considering that all the fancy chocolates are on sale. Hello Godiva and Ghirardelli!

Treat yourself to a warm bubble bath.

Your self-love day should be all about pampering. Light a few candles and run a bath, a perfect time to pull out the sweet smelling bath bombs and bubble bars (Lush has a great assortment of Valentine's Day bath products) and soak away all your worries.

Netflix and chill.

So maybe "Netflix and chill" connotes with sex, but we don't have to make it like that. Grab your chocolates and heart shaped pizza and turn on your favorite movie or television show, without having to worry about anyone hogging the remote but you. I've recently been watching Nikita on Netflix, but since it's your self-love day, pick whatever your heart desires!

Get one of those heart shaped pizzas.

Those heart shaped pizzas may be totally unconventional and super cheesy (pun intended), but there is no shame in buying one for yourself. Remember that it's your self-love day and you'll do whatever you please with it. This day is all about you. And pizza.
