Beach Getaway: Packing + Travel Tips

If you've been a long time reader of the blog, you would know that I have already talked about packing tips and tricks on the blog, but today I'm specifying that a little more and transforming it into beach getaway packing tips. Since I'll be headed to Puerto Vallarta next week, I've been deciding on what is worthy enough to bring with me to the beach and thought that I would make this the ultimate beach getaway prep post, where I talk about travel tips, beach essentials, and some packing tips.

Beach Essentials

I feel like these should go without saying, but these are some things that are so important to have while at the beach, so it's potent to pack these things before your trip!

Bathing Suits

You cannot go to the beach without a bathing suit. It doesn't matter if you plan on taking a dip in the water or not, you should still bring along at least one swimsuit on your beach getaway. Lately, I've been obsessed with the trend of underwire bathing suits and high-waisted bottoms, even though I cannot pull off high-waisted bathing suit bottoms at all. It's just that I love the retro look that they have going on. The bathing suit that I just purchased and am bringing on my vacation is this bathing suit from Aerie, which is at such a great price and is super cute.

A beach coverup

I've been wanting to get a nice beach coverup for such a long time, but I haven't found any affordable ones that I really love. I've been looking for a nice one, preferably a white embroidered one that kind of channels a Greek islands vibe, but I picked some nice ones that I have been eyeing in case they go on sale.

A beach bag

I am a big lover of beach bags, since I love to be prepared and bring lots to the beach. I use a Lilly Pulitzer bag that I got for free (!!!) with an Estee Lauder purchase a year or two ago when they were collaborating together. To this day, that's probably the best freebie that I got. In my beach bag, I like to carry extra sunscreen, headphones, books to read while sunning, anything that I could possibly need to keep myself occupied or to just be prepared for anything.

Packing Tips

I am an over-packer. What can I say? I like to be prepared. Along with those beach essentials that I mentioned, I also pack some other, less glamorous things. To make it easier for you to pack for your beach getaway, I've crafted a packing list that you can use with all the things that are important to have for your trip. The things on there range from sunscreen to toothpaste to books. Click here to get the packing list! I'm also going to include some packing tips to help you make the most of your suitcase and not overpack.

Packing cubes are your friends.

You can buy packing cubes online that compact your clothes so that they take as little room as possible. Basically, packing cubes are like little storage pouches so that you can organize your things. I'm using one packing cube for daily clothing and another smaller one for my pajamas, and an even smaller one for bathing suits. This way, not only are my things compact to save room, but also organized for the convenience of my arrival. Don't have packing cubes? Use these makeshift packing cubes! I totally understand that not everyone has packing cubes. If you don't have any and want to still get the benefits of packing cubes, try using ziploc bags and cosmetic bags to carry the small things so that they don't get lost amongst the dresses and t-shirts.

Put books on the outer pockets.

I love a good read while I'm on the beach. Although some people love audio books and eBooks, I prefer reading off of hard copies. The downside of this is that it takes up the space in my suitcase, which clashes with my over packing problem. Since my suitcase has outer pockets, (I'm aware that some do not) I'm putting my books there so that they don't take up the main storage area.

Pack tank tops and light cardigans.

The thing about beach getaways is that sometimes it can get a little chilly (depending on where you're headed) in the evening. Instead of bringing separate outfits, warm ones and cool ones, bring some nice tank tops and light cardigans to layer over them. Wear your tank tops in the day and layer on a cardigan at night. By doing this, you're packing less and also being more versatile with your clothing.

I hope that this post helped you prepare for your beach getaway and that you have an incredible time wherever you're headed! If you're not headed anywhere and just read this post for kicks, don't be blue that you're not sunning yourself on the beach, because I did a post on how to have a staycation a few weeks ago!
