The Malecon

If you follow me on Instagram, (which you should!) then you might know that I was just on a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. During this trip, I spent a lot of time on the beach, however, I did get a chance to head to the Malecon, which is basically a long boardwalk filled with shops and sculptures. It also makes for something a little different than just laying on the beach.

What's really nice about the promenade is that all of the shops and restaurants face the Pacific ocean, meaning that there's a gorgeous view that you can adore while strolling along. The waves are crashing on the rocks as you walk by. It was so nice to just sit down at a little gelato shop, eating my hazelnut gelato while feeling the ocean breeze and basking in the view.

I also found these adorable buildings with bright, freshly painted walls along with nice wooden windows and doors. I'll admit, I was in awe! I'm a sucker for colored walls and these were no exception.

Throughout the esplanade, there were all kinds of sculptures lined up so that you can see them standing in front of the ocean. From unicorns to dolphins to seahorses to strange abstract works, this one was my favorite. It's a picture of a woman dancing with a man and I think that it embodies the idea of Mexico perfectly. I also love the contrast between the man and the woman and the way that the skirt of her dress looks, up in the air.

This is the arch that appears in so many pictures when I google the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta. It's located in a spot that frames the Church of Our Lady Guadalupe, which can be seen on the right of the picture. I'm not exactly sure why this arch is so iconic to the Malecon, but I snapped this picture while I was walking by. I shot this angle mostly because there were people crowding around the bottom of it and I was trying to crop them out, but I think that it turned out even better this way because of the way that the church appears within the arch.

If you're a long time reader of the blog, you may know that I frequently write travel diaries following a trip. However, since this is a beach getaway, I didn't take as many pictures as I would take if I was sightseeing. The only posts covering my trip will be this post and another post coming on Wednesday, which is a recap of the whole trip.
